DIED - In this city on the 24th ult., EMILIA MANUELLA, eldest daughter of Felix and Maria Palmes Bonifay, aged twenty-five years five months and eight days. The disease which robbed an extended circle of devoted friends, and which tore from the embrace of fond and indulgent parents this most gentle and amiable young lady, was protracted and painful. The patience and Christian resignation with which she bore her painful affliction, is worthy of all imitation. She frequently expressed herself resigned to the will of God and confident of happiness beyond the grave. Her only regret seemed to be that she could not be spared to assist her aged parents in their declining years. Such fervent piety, such deep filial love and gratitude are the happy fruits of proper paternal care and admonition, and will soften the anguish of heart that is now felt by her bereaved parents and brothers and sister. Her pure spirit has winged its flight to happier realms. "She sleeps in Jesus sweetly now! No pain in that fevered brow. No more the struggling grasp for breath. Convulsive, in the arms of death. She sleeps in Jesus! Angels bright Have borne her hence to worlds of light. Have borne her, shouting to the skies, Where (unreadable) L.

Death of Mr. Francois Bonifay.
This venerable citizen, after a lingering and painful illness, died at 3 o'clock Sunday morning at the home of his son, Judge F. B. Bonifay, on West Gregory street. Mr. Bonifay's death was the result of debility from old age, he having celebrated his 83rd birthday last November. He was born in Pensacola, and in his death the city loses one of its oldest, if not its oldest, inhabitant. His immediate surviving relatives are his brother, Mr. Leocadia Bonifay, of this city; his sisters, Mrs. Emily Gale, of Mobile, and Mrs. Emanuella Quina, of Pensacola; his sons, Judge F. B. Bonifay and Mr. M. P. Bonifay, of this city, and his daughter Mrs. T. D. Wolfe, of Shrevesport, La., all of whom, except Mrs. Wolf, were with him in his sickness, and ministered to his wants with loving hands.
The funeral took place from St. Michael's (Catholic) church at 9 a.m. yesterday, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. Father McCormick, Mr. Bonifay was buried in St. Michael's cemetery by the side of his wife who died several years since. The pall bearers were Messrs. M. G. Bonifay, M. F. Gonzalez, O. A. Gonzalez, C. H. Gonzalez, Eugene Bonifay and Albert Riera, all of whom were related to the deceased. An interesting incident of the sad occasion was the burial of Mr. Bonifay (by his wish) in the coat in which he was married in this city 61 years ago, and which had been kept in a perfect state of preservation.

Made His Last Speech, Judge F. B. Bonifay Expires Suddenly After Making a Speech in Advocacy of his Favored Mayoralty Candidate.
While crowds cheered to the echo a masterly speech of Judge Frank B. Bonifay last night, that esteemed gentleman was taking leave of this world. His heart had stopped its beating even before the exclamations of appreciation had passed away. And with a ceasing of the heart beats a grand and noble citizen had passed to his heavenly reward. A deathly silence, a respectful awe, prevailed where, a moment before, eloquence reigned. Judge Bonifay was dead, and death came very shortly after he had delivered a speech in advocacy of Capt. T. E. Welles for the Mayor's chair.
It was a great speech and will long be remembered by all who heard it.
Judge Bonifay was the fourth speaker at the Welles-Muldon meeting last night. As he mounted the platform and began his speech a perceptible weakness asserted itself to such an extent that several remarked upon it. He had not been in the best of health for some time and the effort last night was too much. His speech was prolonged, notwithstanding his evident weakness. He loved Capt. Welles, and lie [sic] delighted to advocate his election. At the last his voice grew husky and he started from the platform. A previous remark caused him to take the stand for a second effort, but even at this juncture death was near. He desisted from further talk and as he reeled down the few steps he swayed, fell and died. News of this sad termination to one of the largest Welles meetings, spread rapidly over the city and several meetings of the two factions closed at once.
This morning the news spread and was learned everywhere with profound sorrow. Deceased was known everywhere and universally liked. At his home today, on West Gregory street, numerous friends have called and gazed upon the cold and motionless features. The funeral will take place from the St. Michael's Church at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning. (Louisiana and Alabama papers are requested to please copy.)

Press Gazette, Aug. 3, 1827
Obituary The following is a translation of the French article, on the death of Mr. Emanuel Bonifay, communicated for our last.
Blessed are they whom God calls to himself. Let us in humiliation bend before his decrees; but, although religion commands resignation to his Divine Providence, let it not be supposed that to express our sorrow is a revolt against Him who loves and who chastises.
Ancient Inhabitants of Pensacola, in less than fifteen days two of your most respectable citizens have, by the inexorable hand of untimely death, been removed from you. From their birth these two men had been known, they were cherished, by you; and tears are now the only acceptable tribute that can be paid to their memories. To add to the Eulogy, which has been so ably drawn of Col. Noriega, will not here be pretended: his friends, and they are numerous, have but one consolation; it is that the family which he left in this transient world, are amply provided with all earthly comforts.
Emanuel Bonifay, whom we have just laid in his tomb, was the father of eleven children, but one of whom has attained the age of manhood, and the youngest shall never behold the author of his existence. His Consort is one of those who fulfill their duties, not because they consider them as incumbent obligations, but because there is a satisfaction in them, and their accomplishment produces happiness. He who unites his existence to such a companion shows that he deserved her. For her is there a period to an overwhelming grief? Yes: when she rises to the mansion of the Blessed, there she will meet the soul of the companion she preferred in her youth, whom she exclusively cherished, and to whom she will again present herself adorned with a robe of spotless purity.
And the Mother of our departed friend, whose age exceeds threescore and ten, and who has been the origin of the most numerous, and one of the most respectable, families in the county, where can her consolation but In Heaven--nothing on Earth can sooth her, who delighted in saying "my son Emanuel was always wise". She a hundred times repeated to me "scarcely, even in early youth, have I had any occasion to reprove him, Emanuel was always fond of active occupations, he always avoided the haunts of dissipation, despised gambling, and never, no never caused me to blush at seeing him intoxicated. Pure he led his beloved to the Hymenial alter, pure he has lived with her." "Such is" added she, "the example that he has set before his numerous family, I hope they will never depart from it." This picture, drawn by a tender but enlightened mother, is not the recital of the triumphs of a hero; it does not offer to the Public the brilliant achievements of a man who is to hold a rank in history; -- it only portrays a practical philosopher, and were the world inhabited but by such unassuming beings, the Poets, truly, would have no great man to present to our admiration, but we should all be happy! A victim to his zeal for his family, whom he supported by constant labor; his courage surpassed his strength; the limits of the latter put an end to his existence. Like a prudent man, who fears not his last moment, but prepares himself for it, Emanuel Bonifay settled all his affairs but a short time before his death -- an example in all worthy of imitation is the estate he has bequeathed. All his debts are due to one man, who would not pardon me if I named him; the Public call him "the honest man whose integrity is known."
Oh God! thou whose judgments are impenetrable; thou hast been pleased to cause the rod of affliction to fall heavily upon a wife, eleven children, an aged mother, devoted relations, sincere friends. Graciously receive our submission; grant our prayers for him whom, we humbly hope, has been called to the enjoyment of Thyself.

Abt. 1825 - Sep 23, 1825
Pensacola Gazette, Oct 1, 1825 - Died In this City on Friday the 23d ult. of an inflammatory fever, in the 23d year of his age, Mr. George F. Brent, son of Mrs. Mary Woodrow, formerly of Virginia. In the death of this worthy young man, his mother has lost an uncommonly attentive and affectionate son, the promised prop of her old age and the solace of her declining years; and his youthful bride, one whom she fondly looked forward to as her beloved companion through' life, the partner of her joys and the soother of her sorrows; young, in the height of the most flattering anticipations and hopes, and in the full enjoyment of the most delightful of the human passions; her youthful prospects have been blasted and her anticipations and hopes have withered and passed away as a dream. In one short week they have been called from the greatest felicity, to sustain themselves under the most afflicting dispensation of Providence. Society and his friends and acquaintances generally, have also lost one who will long be remembered and regretted as a polite and gentlemanly acquaintance; a warm friend, beloved and esteemed by all who had the pleasure of an intimacy with him. Though our deceased friend was but four days sick, and for a great part of that time his mind was clouded by the nature of his malady, yet it must be a great consolation to his friends, that the time immediately preceding his decease was enlightened by a return of reason. A short time before his departure, he declared that he was conscious he was near the end of his earthly career, and having performed his religious duties, he expressed a wish to be united to the object of his most heartfelt affection, an affection which was warmly reciprocated, and which had occasioned an engagement of long standing; his wish was promptly complied with and he was married to Miss Merced A. Gonzalez, by the Rev. Mr. Maenhaut of the Catholic Church, of which they were both members. He then called his relations and friends to him separately, by name, and affectionately embracing them expressed his satisfaction and resignation, and departed full of a lively hope, and a firm belief, that he died in peace with his Almighty maker and friend. We wish not to intrude on the sanctity of private grief, but let us recollect that our loss is his gain; that he has left a world of temptations and of sorrows to enjoy a blessed immortality in the realms of eternal bliss. Poem ARTICLE: Pensacola Gazette, Oct. 8, 1825, Fire Company No. 2, Meeting of Monday, 3d of October, 1825. Mr. F. H. Nisbet, President of the Company mentioned that, since the last meeting, it had lost a valuable member, and proposed the adoption of an expression of our feelings on the melancholy occasion; Whereupon the following Preamble and Resolutions were unanimously adopted. Whereas, by the sudden death of Mr. George F. Brent, on the 23d of September ult. this Company has been deprived of a respected member, Therefore Resolved, That this company deeply regret the loss we have sustained, by the decease of our late highly esteemed fellow member Mr. George F. Brent, and, deeply sympathizing with his relations under this bereavement, we offer this as a testimony of our sense of his high worth and gentlemanly deportment, and as a token of the respect we entertain for his memory. Resolved, That the Secretary of this Company be requested to deliver a copy of these resolutions to each, Mrs. Woodrow the mother, and Mrs. Brent, the widow of our deceased friend; and also, Resolved, That a copy be furnished to the Editor of the Pensacola Gazette, with a request that they be published in its paper. Extracted from the Records of the Company. Attest, W. Hasell Hunt, Secretary.
